Christmas Lanterns

Pampanga is the Christmas capital of the Philippines. Parol or Christmas lantern is one of the most-loved Christmas decorations by the Filipinos. Held every December at San Fernando, the “Ligligan Parul” or Giant Lantern Festival is one of the most celebrated Christmas events in the region. The first lantern festival was held to honor President Manuel L. Quezon way back early 1900s. Through the years, the lanterns grew bigger, brighter and more complex. As early as October, Christmas lanterns, in varying shapes, sizes and colors, are being displayed and sold along the streets of Pampanga. For every Filipino family, hanging and lighting a Parol is an ultimate expression of faith, love and hope.

SM Malls are one of the most popular and widely spread shopping spots in the Philippines. SM is known for offering products and services for people who are on a budget, but also carry high end branded products. SM also features two outlets: SM Hypermarket and SM Department Store. Woodcrafts – Layug, Tayag and HILAGA Pilipinas

Wood carving is also Pampanga speciality. Betis, a town in Guagua is known for their religious masterpieces that come in various sizes. Betis Galleria is the most popular when it comes to life size wood statues. Owned by  Wilfredo Tadeo Layug, award winning sculptor and international artist, the gallery is the home of some of the best wood carvings in the Philippines.

HILAGA Pilipinas on the other hand, is formerly known as Paskuhan Village. Each hall showcases the best of the region it represents. HILAGA Pilipinas is conveniently located near San Fernando Exit, a few minutes away from the Giant Lantern Festival.

Philippine Shops on MacArthur Hi-Way

Angeles City’s lively suburbs are not just about exciting attractions. Countless thrift shops are also scattered along the busy MacArthur Hi-way. The main city road goes past many colorful shops and business establishments, adding extra delight to the shopaholic travelers.

Located downtown Angeles City, Robinson’s Place is the place to get cheap personal effects, gifts and affordable imported items. The Pure Gold shop in Dau, along MacArthur Hi-way is also popular among locals for it offers quality products at affordable prices.

The Mheas Custom Woodcraft, on the other hand is a specialty store the offers beautiful woodcrafts made from the finest woods available. For European visitors longing for home delicacies, Edelweiss Delicatessen is must-try. The store is a mishmash of Swiss, German and Austrian delicacies. It is located near the Clark jeepney terminal.
